During the first term of the first year, as a year group, we went to the London Design Festival for a University trip. It was an event once a year occurs in London, this global design showcased designers from over 40 countries with over 400 designs for every designer to stay on top current trends and patterns.
It was my first time going to London Design Festival and was overwhelmed. This is one of the freshest international fairs that I have been to. It was my first time seeing many designers work with different designs and they are all unique in their own way.

Out of all the other inspirations, the most stood out to me was the ‘cork bark with evergreen flex’ by
FREUND. The cork bark was cover by the evergreen flex in a frame shape and was arranged in a brick wall vertically. As an interior design student, I think this cork bark with evergreen flex wall design can be put indoor as well as an outdoor too. Due to the unique design, it can attract many customers with its unique design and its natural colour and has a natural aura to the surrounding as many people are attracted to unique places and trendy. According to the design of the wall, it can be blend in with any type of material and surrounding.
Another design which inspired me was a luminaire called ‘Greenhill

Moss Luminaires’ by FREUND. I was much inspired by how well a modern lighting design in harmony with nature and it is the perfect symbiosis between natural materials and modern lighting design. This Freund moss luminaires bring this positive effect into interior spaces. This luminaire can be used indoor as well as outdoor, it can lighten the atmosphere around it just by seeing it. As the luminaire is designed with Greenhill moss, it is unique unlike others and can be blend in with other materials as well.
The purpose of going to the London Design Festival was for one of my project called ‘Market Project’ it was to design a shop’s interior located in the Queensgate Market in Huddersfield. We were to look around the exhibition and ask about the information about the design and for the sample material of the design that we like as many as we can. It is to help in the mood board sample material for the project. Then out of those samples, we can use any materials which are suitable for our project according to the shop we were designing.
By asking the information on the materials and the design, I learn many things concerning with the materials on how to use it and which is the best for the interior design. Many of the design in the exhibition has inspired a lot in my second-year project and helps me to design more interesting design according to the environment and surrounding. In addition, I come to know which materials blend in well with what material according to their quantity and texture.
